Mezzanine Fire Protection

Involves "underdrawing" or "cladding" the underside of a mezzanine floor structure in order to protect if from collapsing in the event of a fire - before personnel have a chance to evacuate the area or before fire fighters can access the structure in order to combat the fire.

Recent changes to the Building Regulations suggest that nearly all new mezzanine floors should be fire rated unless strict fire prevention measures can be satisfied!

Traditionally, fire rating comprises:-

• Suspended Ceiling below floor
• Restrained bulkhead to exposed edges of floors.
• Cavity barriers within floor/ceiling void on 10m centres
• Support columns to be "cased" with an approved material
